Congratulations and Thanks!

Congratulations and thanks for supporting Tamarama and Clovelly SLSCs by taking part in the 2010 TamaCloey Cliffside Odyssey. It certainly was an Odyssey!




We came close to putting our Big Swell Backup Plan into action and moving the start to Coogee due to the ginormous swell at Tamarama on Saturday and Sunday. However by the start of the race on Monday morning the surf had died down enough to allow us to go ahead from Tama albeit under challenging conditions.

Unfortunately this meant that the planned gap of 30 seconds between each of the three starting waves of the same colour, and 3 minutes between each colour, was significantly increased to allow the previous wave to get through the break zone and ensure the safety of the next wave. This was one of those days that reminds us we're ocean swimmers, and not pool swimmers!

If you were one of those who finished the race, Congratulations! Whatever your time it's an achievement to be proud of. If you were in the final waves and didn't make it off the beach we're really sorry that we had to cancel the race mid way through. Following a confirmed shark sighting very close to swimmers near Bronte we took advice from Surf Lifesaving, Waverley and Randwick Lifeguards and made the tough decision to stop the race. We hope you understand.
